There are several bars and restaurants all within a short walk. There is a mini market within the urbanisation and is only 2 minutes walk from the villa. Larger supermarkets are located in La Cala and Fuengirola.
The nearest beach is at the bottom or our estate and is less than 10 minutes walk. Although there is a busy road between us and the beach you can walk under or over the road so there is no need to cross the road.
The beach runs for miles in either direction. There is a fabulous beach in La Cala. You can walk from our beach all the way down to La Cala beach (1.5km) – and beyond!
Fuengirola is famous for its seven kilometre (5 mile) stretch of sandy beach, beginning at the Sohail Castle to the west (at the new Four Star, Beatriz Spa Hotel) and ending at Torreblanca to the east. The promenade is officially called Paseo Maritimo Rey de España. Promenade in Spanish is paseo maritimo, pronounced “pasayo mareeteemo”).
All along the beach and the sea front, you will find every kind of water sport and seaside amenity to keep the whole family happy the year round, but especially during the high season when demand is higher and the days are longer. The paseo maritimo has been widened and much improved over the last decade, reflecting the town’s growth in importance during that time. Front line hotels and apartment blocks are prime locations for the perfect Mediterranean beach holiday although the price of apartments in this area has rocketed in recent times.
All along the beach, there are excellent ‘chiringuitos’ (beach bars/restaurants), where fresh fish and seafood is usually the star of the menu, even though most places also cater to the first time visitor to Spain who prefers plainer fare, such as chicken and chips. In either case, the food is generally excellent and reasonably priced. Other restaurants, representing foods around the world include Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Swiss, British (roast beef or fish and chips are never far away). Of course, McDonalds and Burger King are there as well. There are also plenty of small mini-markets and news agents along the sea front selling toys, beach items, gifts, books, and drinks.
In high season the whole length of the beach has ‘hamacas’ (beach beds) and parasols for hire at daily charge of around 8 euros (for two beach beds and 1 parasol). There is usually a sign up on the beach, with the price clearly marked and if you see no one around, then ask at the nearest beach bar about hire of beach beds, etc. as the two businesses are often linked. Some people, who come on holiday for the whole month of July or August, reserve the same beach beds and parasol for the time they are there and pay in advance.
There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy water sports, such as water-skiing, pedal boats, jet-skis and much more.
